Environments to form Relationships and strengthen Faith

The mission of the adult education program is to assist our members in knowing the Lord and deepening their relationship with Him through expository and topical studies of the Bible. Our discussion-based classes align with Summerville CoC’s overall vision for the church: relationships formed, faith strengthened.

Current Adult Classes - may 5th - july 28th

Adult Class (Family Room): Minor Prophets

Chris Miller and Brian Washington

This study will emphasize the knowledge and power of God through the accuracy of historical prophecy as well as messianic prophecy and fulfillment. This quarter covers Amos, Hosea, Micah, and Zephaniah.

Young Adult (Upstairs Gym): Live Well

Allen and Stephanie Cooke

What does it mean to live well? In 1st and 2nd Peter, Peter encourages the elect of Christ to come to the living well of God and seek his divine wisdom. We’ll study Peter’s wise words for living well as a complete Christian.

Ladies Class (Annex): Amos

Jacqueline Todd and Michelle Bell

Amos is often called a prophet of doom, and his prophecy doesn’t sound like a happy formula for the good life. However, the opposite is true; he’s crying out to “seek God and live.” Come join us for an interesting discussion on this topic.

Adult Class 2 (Gym): Apologetics: Jude and the Problem of Pain by C.S. Lewis

Ben Greene and Jared King

This class will seek to help us grow in our faith to understand God’s love for us. Jude warns us to beware ungodly people and false teachings while standing firm in our faith and standing up for the truth. C.S. Lewis tackles the following rhetorical argument against God: “If God were good, he would wish to make His creatures perfectly happy, and if God were almighty He would be able to do what He wished. But the creatures are not happy. Therefore God lacks either goodness, or power, or both.” Lewis discusses why this statement is false and why pain is necessary and does not make God unloving. Our class will look at these arguments to learn how we can grow stronger in our own faith in light of the struggles in this world. We will seek to understand that Jesus was one of the strongest men of all, “tougher than a two dollar steak,” because of his love for us. God is amazing and his love for us is evident in all parts of the Bible. It is important that we continue to learn and grow in our understanding of God’s love with tough conversations with others like the ones given in Jude and Lewis’ book.
